The Hamner Institutes For Health Sciences Announces New Director Of Foundation And Government Relations

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Dr. William F. Greenlee, president and CEO of The Hamner Institutes For Health Sciences, an independent, nonprofit organization that offers an open, collaborative and cross-disciplinary approach to strengthen the research investment in biomedical sciences, has announced that Christina C. Russell has joined The Hamner as director of foundation and government relations. In this position, Russell will lead major giving and fundraising programs for The Hamner, including developing and implementing plans to secure endowment funds as well as expanding the fundraising activities for its foundation and special events.

Russell has served many roles in the biotechnology field, most recently as state affairs director with the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in Research Triangle Park, after previously serving as its corporate affairs director. She was special projects director for Cogent Neuroscience in Durham, as well as research director for Duke University President Emeritus Terry Sanford. She worked on Capitol Hill for two United States Senators from North Carolina, including service in a leadership position for Senator Terry Sanford. Her past and present affiliations include the board of Southeast BIO, the Council for Entrepreneurial Development Biotechnology Steering Committee, the Emerging Issues Forum Steering Committee, the BIO State Government Relations Committee and Leadership North Carolina.

Russell earned her degree in liberal arts from St. Mary’s College in Raleigh and a degree in business administration and economics from Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, N.C. A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., she resides in Henderson, N.C.
