Essex Limousine Reduces Carbon Footprint with Intro of New Vehicles

September 21, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Essex, CT, September 21, 2007 – Essex Limousine Service, Inc. (www.essexlimousine.com) announced today that they have purchased a hybrid Toyota Prius and a 14 passenger bus that utilizes B20 biodiesel fuel. This acquisition is part of their comprehensive program to increase energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint.

“The addition of both the bus and the Prius to our fleet signifies our dedication to reducing our green house gas emissions,” said Essex president, Eric Anderson. “We’re on our way to doing our part and hope that we’ll inspire others in the process.”

To accomplish an ambitious goal of becoming 100% carbon neutral, Essex has adopted a companywide philosophy – Reduce, Renew, and Offset. Every Essex employee is contributing to reducing emissions, neutralizing the remaining carbon emissions, and supporting the renewable energy industry as a whole.

As part of the overall sustainability program, Essex has become a charter member of the Limousine Environmental Action Partnership (LEAP) which assists transportation companies with emissions goal setting, carbon inventory maintenance and reporting, as well as carbon offsetting.

According to Anderson, “Companies need to address the issue of rising energy costs, and Essex is no exception.” “The bigger picture is also that we have to consider carbon and climate change as concerns that affect not only us but our future generations.”

The sustainability program utilizes a multi-faceted approach to reducing emissions that includes utilizing low-carbon fuels, optimizing vehicle choices, and increasing fuel efficiency.

Essex has implemented a rigorously monitored fleet maintenance plan that ensures the cleanest possible emissions. By properly maintaining their vehicles, the company is reducing emissions by up to 50 percent. Along with closely monitored vehicle maintenance, Essex has established a “no idling policy” and speed restrictions for drivers.

“We are already reaping the benefits that energy efficiency presents,” states Anderson. “Even seemingly small steps taken such as stopping unnecessary idling and driving at speeds of no more than 65 mph can have profoundly positive effects on both our environment and our company’s bottom line.”
