BrainGell Radio Goes From “Wrecking Cars” to “Staying Hard”

LOS ANGELES, Calif., June 19, 2005 — BrainGell Radio takes its international following of head banging, pit moshing freaks into a new era with a fully redesigned website, building its live IRC following into a full-fledged community. The new website has seen over 25,000 unique visitors since June 8, while the station as a whole has seen more than five million visits. BrainGell is listed 174th out of over 9000 stations for TTSL (Total Time Spent Listening) on the SHOUTcast TTSL page world wide.

Live DJs are the primary draw for the radio station, with up to 50% of any given week covered by live DJs; the rest of the time is filled with a constantly tuned playlist affectionately termed “The Loop”. The station and community are run by volunteers from around the globe to provide a community where our members can find one another in any time zone day or night, where the new and experimental metal, as well as hard rock at its roots, are played side by side. BrainGell launched June 16, 2001, with the slogan ‘Music to crash your car to, that’s why we put it on the net!’, and just two DJs, wholly dedicated to the notion of bringing Heavy Metal to anyone that wanted to hear it 24 hours a day. This made way for the current slogan ‘We’re Hard 24/7’.

The founding members of this music community had high hopes that the radio station would take off, but they had no idea they’d be getting over 100,000 listener hours every 30 days! Friday, October 24, 2003 was a major turning point, when Apple(R) picked BrainGell Radio to be listed in their Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Radio section of iTunes(R). “The listeners and visitors to the site doubled immediately,” said Robert Maheu of vbdigital services, owner of BrainGell Radio. “In an industry where new stations startup and quit in the same month, BrainGell Radio’s crew and members have volunteered their time over the last 4 years to build and maintain a lasting community around the station.” Maheu adds, “vbdigital has joined into agreements to provide the bandwidth required to provide streaming technology for millions of tune-ins monthly.”

The station does a live broadcast once a week for two hours where new DJs from around the globe go on and let the ‘BrainGell Community’, our listeners and those in IRC, decide if they will get an open slot on the BrainGell schedule. Many lasting friendships have been formed from the companionship created within this group of people.
