San Diego Hosts Fourth Annual Walk Now For Autism

Thousands of walkers – including individuals with autism, their families and friends — will join together to raise much-needed funds for critical scientific research and to increase awareness about a growing health crisis that now affects 1 in every 150 children at the San Diego Walk Now for Autism on Saturday, November 3 at Balboa Park. Joining the walkers this year will Toys “R” Us mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe. All proceeds from the event benefit Autism Speaks, the nation’s leading autism advocacy organization. This yeas San Diego walk is expected to raise over $250,000 and nationwide raise more than 22 million dollars.

Toys “R” Us, Toys “R” Us Children’s Fund and Chevrolet proudly serve as the national sponsor of the Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism program. Proud local sponsors are: Papa Johns, Qualcomm, KPBS, Mossy Automotive and Evans Tire & Service Centers.

Autism is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a person’s ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by extreme behavioral challenges. Another child is diagnosed every 20 minutes.
