The city is getting together to raise money and awareness in a very fun and positive way. “It’s amazing what a community can do,” Daisie Nichols says, co-chair of Embrace Your Sisters, an organization dedicated to providing short term financial assistance to individuals with breast cancer. “We like to make this an exciting month full of fun activities for the community.”

For the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Downtown Canandaigua Merchant Association and the Business Improvement District will join together to promote education and awareness with activities running all throughout the month of October. The Launch Event is October 5-6 weekend with an open music jam hosted by Cactus Jack and coordinated though Mobile Music. This event will take place in the Commons located at Coach and Main Streets. Pink bows will adorn the doors of participating merchants who will be donating a portion of their sales from the weekend to Embrace Your Sisters. Some merchant’s are continuing with fundraising all month long, including paint cans for donations, or fundraising with products, including a Barbie from Angelic Dreamz, or soy candles and bath products from Wick-edly Sent.

Chalk the Side Walk is the children’s event on October 5th, with free sidewalk chalk handed out by girl scouts. Saturday October 6th is also Fall Into Canandaigua Festival, with activities and fun throughout the city, including the rise of the area’s largest scarecrow, pie baking contest, and beer/wine making contest.

More events are scheduled on Thursday, October 25th, including Fun, Fashion, and Fondue, Cinderella’s Purse Party, Pickering Pub Specials, and a Chocolate Tasting. For more information visit (http://www.downtowncanandaigua.com) or call 585-394-5260
