OPNET Introduces New Capability for IPv6 Network Planning and Operations

September 28, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Slough, – September 28th , 2007 – OPNET Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPNT), a leading provider of management software for networks and applications, announces the general availability of the IPv6 Planning and Operations™ module for IT Guru® Network Planner and SP Guru® Network Planner Version 12.0.

IT Guru Network Planner and SP Guru Network Planner automate analysis and planning of multi-layer, multi-vendor networks. Organizations can accurately plan for growth and technology migration, optimize network capacity and performance, and accelerate new application and service deployment. With the optional NetDoctor® module, users can validate network configuration changes prior to deployment. The new IPv6 Planning and Operations module leverages these advanced analytics and offers additional functionality to plan the migration of IPv4 networks to IPv6.

Alain Cohen, OPNET’s President and CTO, stated, “The new IPv6 Planning and Operations module offers a critical new capability to organizations that need to move to IPv6, including defense and civilian government agencies, network service providers, and large enterprises. Migration to IPv6 is a major network transition that requires considerable planning. Errors can result in costly network outages, security gaps, and application or service performance problems. Our new module will enable network architects and managers to accelerate their transition to IPv6, while controlling costs and operational risks.”
New in OPNET’s IPv6 Planning and Operations module
The IPv6 Planning and Operations module provides significant new functionality, including the following:

• An automated Network Readiness Assessment to determine if devices in the current production network are compatible with IPv6, including operating system version, routing, QoS, multicast, and security;
• A design wizard that recommends various mechanisms for migration, such as tunneling IPv6 traffic through the IPv4 backbone, and leveraging dual-stack devices;
• Analytics that develop capacity and configuration recommendations to preserve network performance after migration;
