June 22, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Experiments in Sound, Futuremusic’s revolutionary new music contest is the first to showcase the transformation of DJ technology utilizing non-performance based mixing tools. Previously, Futuremusic has been recognized as presenting the incredible, performance-based DJ contest, The Next Big Thing. Experiments in Sound, its latest venture, will be the first contest to accept an all-inclusive array of DJ mixes, including both traditional performance-based mixing, as well as computer-aided compilations.

Experiments in Sound’s innovative founder, Dan Brotman, is excited about the contest’s cutting-edge requirements, “Experiments In Sound is about what would happen if you gave a DJ total creative freedom to craft a 60 minute mix without any restrictive rules. It's the first non-performance based mix contest that will allow DJs to achieve their mixes via turntables, CDs, Serato digital vinyl, computers, hardware controllers, musical instruments…any way they want and in any genre they choose. In addition, Experiments is the first contest that will accept mixes in 5.1 surround sound."

Completing their radical vision in Experiments in Sound, Futuremusic is also recognizing VJ’s. Included in the contest is a separate mix category for music oriented video artists. The VJ prize package consists of the ground-breaking Pioneer DVD Turntable, the DVJ-X1, Sony's top-of-the-line video production software, Vegas, Arkaos VJ performance software, a M-Audio Trigger Finger controller and then some!

The 2 Grand Prize offerings will have the biggest DJ/VJ prize package ever assembled. The DJ package includes an Alienware computer workstation, Sony's renowned Acid Pro 5 and Sound Forge 8, Serato Scratch Live, Native Instruments Komplete2, and a great deal more. In addition, both winners will also qualify to mix a special DualDisc release, DVD on one side and CD on the other, for Futuremusic's new 3xperiments 1n 5ound compilation series.

The winner(s) of Experiments in Sound will be chosen by a panel of industry veterans and performers scoring in 4 main categories: Mixing, Creativity, Programming and Quality.
