Connect One and Wi2Wi Release New Lowest Cost Secure Socket iWifi Module for M2M Applications

By using state-of-the-art packaging and coexistent innovations, Connect One and Wi2Wi have established a new price point for iWiFi connections, offering the lowest cost WiFi connectivity available. In addition to breaking the price point for WiFi connectivity, Secure Socket iWiFi set new standards in protecting M2M applications from network attacks.
Secure Socket iWiFi uses Connect One’s iChipSec CO2128 Internet Protocol (IP) communication controller chip—which includes the latest encryption, hardware internalized security and full suite of Internet protocols and applications—as a firewall and Wi2Wi’s W2SW0001 Wireless LAN Module, which is based on a leading vendor of WiFi chipsets. Enabling devices that use communication modules in the industry-standard SocketModem form factor, Secure Socket iWiFi can be integrated into a wireless LAN network with minimal programming.
Although many off-the-shelf, third-party software libraries add WiFi connectivity to Windows or Linux PC-based applications, Connect One can effectively and quickly WiFi-enable non-PC devices that use other embedded real-time operating systems. Secure Socket iWiFi overcomes time and complexity barriers by unbundling the wireless and security drivers from the application. To use Connect One’s serial-to-WiFi device server, designers do not need to significantly reprogram applications since Connect One’s iChipSec CO2128 and high-level AT+i API offload the WiFi drivers, WPA supplicant, security and networking protocols, and communication tasks from the host application. iChipSec CO2128 integrated, hardware-based SSL encryption engine assure end-to-end secure data transfers, even over the Internet. iChipSec CO2128 also acts as a firewall-in-a-chip, protecting the application from networks attacks.

By offloading connectivity, cryptography and security from the application processor, Secure Socket iWiFi frees up host processing time and simplifies the wireless design process. As a coprocessor with remotely updateable firmware, new security or connectivity protocols do not require application redesign, increased memory or faster processor speed to meet future wireless demands.
With Secure Socket iWiFi, developers can take advantage of 10 simultaneous TCP/UDP sockets; two listening sockets; SMTP, MIME, POP3, FTP, Telnet, and HTTP/HTTPS clients; a Web server with a website for the application and one for configuring iChipSec CO2128; and SerialNet™ mode for serial-to-IP bridging. Secure Socket iWiFi supports 64-/128-bit WEP encryption, WPA1 and WPA2 WiFi encryption, AES-128/256, SHA-128/192/256, 3DES; the SSL3/TLS1 protocol for a secure client socket session and a secure FTP session.
The module is power-efficient with the core operating at 1.2V, while I/Os operate at 3.3V (typically 200mW). Several sleep modes further reduce power consumption. The module operates at an extended temperature range of -20° to 70° C (-4° to 158° F) and is RoHS compliant.
Pricing and Availability
Secure Socket iWiFi is available now for sub $40 in quantities of 5,000 units. The II-EVB-361MS evaluation board provides an easy environment for developing applications and testing Secure Socket iWiFi and costs $160.
For large-volume customers, a reference design is available for an onboard implementation of the iChipSec CO2128 and the Wi2Wi chipset.
