October 11, 2007: Email and web management specialist Email Systems has continued its global expansion with the launch of a new regional operation based in Sydney to deliver the company's award-winning technology to businesses in the Asia Pacific region.

The company is investing over $2 million in the Asia Pacific region, including the roll out of fully redundant data centres in Australia and Hong Kong. The launch of Email Systems' Asia Pacific office follows the recent opening of offices in the Netherlands and Scandinavia.

Charles Heunemann has been appointed Managing Director, Email Systems Asia Pacific, effective immediately. He was previously Co-founder of SurfControl Asia Pacific, which under his leadership achieved a 43 percent compound annual growth rate, a market share of 40 percent, and ranking among the top 10 security software vendors in the region.

Prior to SurfControl, Charles pioneered the development of the Australian Web content filtering market as Director of IT security distributor Lanvision. He helped to establish the company as the leading distributor of content filtering technologies in Australia, resulting in its acquisition by SurfControl in 2000.

He is regarded as being at the forefront of knowledge on the effects of the Internet on modern workplace practices and has commissioned three first-of-a-kind studies into the attitudes of Australian workers to Internet and email usage and security.

Neil Hammerton, CEO of Email Systems Global Operations, said: "Asia Pacific is the fastest growing region in the world and a key territory for Email Systems, so we needed to ensure that we had the right team in place to maximise our investments. Charles is a terrifically experienced messaging professional with a great depth of industry knowledge and an intimate knowledge of the Asia Pacific Region. We look forward to positioning Email Systems as the leading technology solution for email and web services to businesses in the region."

According to IDC, the Asia Pacific enterprise ICT outsourcing and managed services market totaled US$23.3 billion in 2006 and is expected to reach US$36.2 billion by 2012. Much of this growth is being driven by the pursuit of higher performance and more cost effective alternatives to traditional software and appliance-based secure content management products.

As an award-winning provider of managed services (also known as Software as a Service or SaaS) for email management, protection and compliance, along with web filtering, Email Systems aims to challenge any business in the region to find a competitive solution that can deliver similar functionality as cost effectively.

"What impressed me most about Email Systems solutions is that, besides delivering effective core anti-spam and anti-virus solutions as a service in the cloud, they have addressed a number of the issues that may have held customers back from investing in hosted security services - until now," said Charles Heunemann, Managing Director of Email Systems, Asia Pacific.

"For example, Email Systems has developed its own proprietary high-performance, multi- threaded Message Transfer Agent - each one capable of processing more than 15 million messages per day. Moreover, the company has solved two critical issues affecting the industry's ability to deliver credible Web Filtering as a hosted service - by providing user name resolution via full LDAP integration, and overcoming performance latency challenges by conducting URL filtering and Web-based virus scanning in silicon."

"Add to these core competencies other services unique to Email Systems - such as email archiving as a service (including native exchange mail), business continuity, web mail client and tag cloud analysis of corporate web usage - put Email Systems a giant leap ahead of what is currently being offered in the market," he said.

David Wain, Managing Director of Coretech, the long-time Australian channel partner of Email Systems commented: "We have been providing customers with Email Systems managed services since early 2002 and have found it to be an excellent managed security solution for anti-virus and anti-spam. Email Systems archiving systems also work with native Microsoft Exchange, which helps our customers augment their disaster recovery strategies and stay ahead of the Queensland records compliance regulations."

Coretech is headquartered in Brisbane and has operations throughout the major regional centers in Queensland. It has been instrumental in establishing a large number of clients in the country including large education sites.

"We have a number of sites that range between 1000 and 1500 users protected by Email Systems… which shows that the technology has excellent scalability," said Wain.

Web filtering is a critical function in the IT department's arsenal against the introduction on Web borne threats like malware, spyware, worms and trojans - but even more so against the downloading and distribution of pornographic and other objectionable content. However Web filtering as a managed service has proved to be a major obstacle to vendors wanting to enter the Security Software as a Service space due to lack of integration with user directory services, and challenges with performance latency.

"We have conducted our own testing of the Email Systems web filtering service and it works just fine. We can easily integrate our customers' directories into the service, allowing them to create policies based on their existing users and group structure, and the performance of the Web filtering system is just excellent. With the new data centers Email Systems will be building later this year, I expect that the service will remain fully transparent - even under heavy load," said David Wain
