Polio Writing Contest in British Columbia

March of Dimes in association with PPASS BC has a very exciting opportunity for Grade 7 & 8 Students!

This contest is beneficial to students and will increase awareness and knowledge of both polio’s impact on Canadian history and the effects of post-polio syndrome.

Experience being a journalist and interview a polio survivor for your essay, with the chance to win great prizes!

Contest Details:

Students will submit a 500 word essay through the page “Polio Awareness Essay Contest” on the March of Dimes website at www.marchofdimes.ca. This essay MUST be submitted before December 31st, 2007. The essays will be judged from January 2008 until February 2008. During Polio Awareness Month in March the winners of the essay contest will be announced!

Essay Requirements:

The essay should be 500 words in length. Along with the essay students must submit an interview with a polio survivor with all five questions answered (separate from essay)
The essay must have a quote used from the interview placed into the body of the essay
Students must display correct use of spelling and grammar

First Prize: Your essay on the front page of the PPASS BC newsletter, $200 and a gift basket

Second Prize: Your essay in the PPASS BC newsletter, $100 and a gift basket
