Phasmatrope Adds Director Guy Quinlan; Launches New York Office

NEW YORK, NY - Phasmatrope Studios (www.phasmatrope.com), the Philadelphia, PA-based award-winning creative content provider and commercial production company headed by partners Jeff Odiorne and Jonathan Isen, has added director Guy Quinlan to its creative roster, as well as launched its New York office, headed by Christine DoRego who joins Phasmatrope as Head of Sales. She was formerly a producer at the Dallas, TX-based agency The Richards Group.

"Guy is a natural storyteller - his composition and character development are exceptional," said Isen. "When I first screened his work I was taken with how much I cared about the characters he presented. We are also excited to combine his knowledge of the European markets with our own offshore capabilities to be able to provide superior production worldwide."

The New York-based director has already completed his first Phasmatrope assignment - an online spot/mock movie trailer for Vitamin Water, via agency Stick and Move, Philadelphia, featuring NFL quarterback Donavan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles that breaks in August.

Quinlan, known in the business as one of New York's top freelance producers with clients such as McCann-Erickson, BBDO, DDB, Driver Media, Amalgamated, Lambesis, McGarry Bowen and Sawtooth, which also gave him his first directing assignments. During that time he also directed 10 viral web films and 10 shorts shot on location in Europe.

Quinlan grew up in Brighton, England and Cannes, France then moved to New York in the mid 80's to learn production at Wells, Rich Greene, New York. He transferred to Milan to produce commercials worldwide where he introduced countless US directors to the Italian market. In 1994 Quinlan met Luke Thornton founder of The End (now Believe Media) who hired him in New York as Executive Producer where he successfully opened up the East Coast and European markets. In 1998 he left and went freelance with US and European agencies to fund his short films.

"Jon Isen was looking for a director who was walking the new media line and Oscar Thomas (producer at Driver) said 'I have the Guy,'" said Quinlan. "The timing was perfect as I was producing commercials and then directing longer form projects on my own so I needed some serious help."

Quinlan added, "Jon and Jeff are forward thinking and are the only ones in my mind who can come close to reuniting advertising and entertainment in relevant new forms of worldwide media. I feel a like-minded connection between us all so it came as no surprise that Jon immediately got me involved in a project like Vitamin Water. Web based films can be any length but you have to entertain the web audience so they don't quit on you. I welcome that challenge."

NYC Office Led By Christine DoRego

Phasmatrope has also launched their New York City office. Housed inside the famous Ed Sullivan Theater on 53rd Street and Broadway (also home to the Late Show with David Letterman), the office will be led by the company's new Head of Sales Christine DoRego. DoRego joins Phasmatrope following four years as a producer at agency The Richards Group, Dallas, TX.

"Christine's significant experience as an agency producer rounds out our talent pool," says Isen. "Our new structure and creative team gives us greater flexibility to serve not only new and different customers, but also to serve our existing customers better and more completely."

DoRego brings a wealth of advertising experience to Phasmatrope. A Texas native, she joined The Richards Group as a production coordinator in 2001, before moving on to produce campaigns for high-profile clients such as The Home Depot.
In joining Phasmatrope, DoRego is essentially switching sides in the producer-client dynamic. It is a role for which her experience has her well prepared.

"As an agency producer, I was approached by a ton of reps," she says. "In that role, I was able to get a sense of what works and what doesn't. From my perspective, it's about matchmaking. I have to know my directors and pair them and their work with appropriate projects. Luckily, Phasmatrope has a talented roster of directors from which to choose."
