Real Life Education Finds Home In Second Life

March 12, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Media News
March 12, 2007 - Delta L Printing and Media Services is not the first company to notice that Second Life provides a great opportunity for both traditional in-class and distance education. Delta L, however, is the first company to offer pre-packaged solutions for education and training using Second Life technology. “The idea is to offer tools that people could try and, perhaps, start using right away,” says Dr. Heiphetz, President of Delta L. “Unlike web sites, Second Life is made to function in real time, so if you visit a Second Life location and there is nobody there to show you around, you will not see the real value of what is going on. On our Education Island we set several working tools that you can test on your own, day or night, as well as movie screens showing movies shot during educational sessions in Second Life. This gives educators better understanding of the promise we see in this technology. We also offer free no-obligation Second Life tours that include both Education Island and other locations.”

The response so far was very positive. Both academia and corporate educators not only increased their awareness of current developments in computer simulations, but at least some of them started working on plans involving use of Second Life as a technology and delivery mechanism for their courses.
