RALEIGH, N.C. (June 2007) – Wes Hohenstein, chief meteorologist for NBC 17-WNCN, will serve as emcee for the Raleigh Public Relations Society’s annual Sir Walter Raleigh Awards for Excellence in Communication ceremony on Tuesday, June 26 at the RBC Center Champion’s Club.

RPRS will present more than 30 awards in various areas of communications including community relations campaigns, publications, public relations writing, audio-visual communications, a special “more bang for the buck” category, and student entries. RPRS will also present the 2007 Watt Huntley Award for Lifetime Achievement to an area communications professional.

Hohenstein came to the Raleigh area from KPRC in Houston, where he prepared and presented the weather every ten minutes throughout the station’s fast-paced weekday morning show and noon newscast. He has also worked as the weathercaster for TV stations in Salt Lake City, Utah and Lafayette, Louisiana. Hohenstein has expanded the traditional role of a meteorologist by initiating community efforts such as Houston’s Sunshine Award program that recognizes teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty.
